In's & Out's of LARPing
What is LARPing?
Live Action Role Playing is a performance art that has a vast community across the globe. Gatherings can range from just a few dozen to thousands of attendees. LARPing requires a costume (intricate or not) and that you play as a character for the duration of the event. It combines the essence of theater with interactive story telling.
LARPing is a creative outlet for those to embrace another version of themselves and leave behind the mundane of everyday life (Stark, 2021). People from all walks of life participate in LARPing, doctors, postal workers, musicians, computer techs, professors, etc.
LARPing is an inclusive community that fosters friendship and community building. Friends you make LARPing could be friends for life.
LARPing events come in all shapes and sizes and genres can range from Lord of the Rings, to medieval to Star Wars, to steam punk, etc. They are all incapsulating events meant to transport you to another world and place, allowing you to freely express yourself in a safe environment.
Respect is an important tenet of LARPing. By respecting the rules, other players, the craft, and the game, it ensures that everyone can participate safely, be fully immersed, and enjoy themselves.
