LARPing and cosplay are similar but they are not the same. LARPing is a performance art, it requires costume, a character, and you to play that character within the realm of the event you are attending. Breaking character is detrimental to the scene in that it can take away from others experience (Kyle, 2018). Cosplaying is a visual art form. Cosplaying requires a costume but not the performance.
